ELK is proud to announce a groundbreaking Australian-first partnership with BlockTexx® to responsibly treat ELK’s end-of-life garments and convert them into products for the manufacturing and agricultural sectors.
A LEADER IN TEXTILE RECYCLING
BlockTexx® is a leader in textile recycling, introducing innovative solutions that divert textile waste from landfill into sustainable products. Traditional textile recycling processes often handle only "mono-fibres," meaning fabrics that are 100% of a single material, such as polyester or cotton. However, BlockTexx® has developed technology that extracts valuable resources from blended fabrics, significantly expanding the potential for recycling end-of-life garments in the fashion industry, where blends are common.
ELK ACHIEVES AUSTRALIAN FIRST
ELK is the first Australian fashion brand to collaborate with BlockTexx® for end-of-life garment recycling. This partnership focuses on ELK's preloved, end-of-life garments that cannot be reused through the brand's (RE)NEW program. Once garments are handed over to BlockTexx®, they are processed through one of BlockTexx’s charity partners, which involves removing non-recyclable components like buttons and zips.
SEPARATION OF FIBRE TECHNOLOGY
BlockTexx® then processes the garments through a patented technique called S.O.F.T., "separation of fibre technology".
This involves shredding the fabric and converting it into two industry-ready products:
- Polytexx® – Recycled-PET pellets used in textile production, injection moulding, and the construction industry for products such as polyester textiles and new plastic goods.
- CellTexx® – A microcrystalline cellulose product used to enhance soil health in agricultural applications.
THE REVOLUTION HAS BEGUN
With almost 300 ELK garments already sent to BlockTexx® facility, this partnership sets a new standard for circular economy initiatives and sustainable fashion in Australia.
